We buy foreign banknotes back over the counter
Came home with cash you did not spend. Bring it up to Level 2 and we will change it back into Australian dollars while you wait.
Banknotes, in the currencies we deal
We currently hold 22 currencies, and the ones we sell are generally the ones we buy back. The live board shows every one of them with today's rate in both directions - check the rates before you make the trip.
No commission, and no fee on top
The rate you are quoted at the counter is the whole deal. There is no separate commission, service fee or handling charge added afterwards, so the number you agree to is the number of Australian dollars you leave with.
Ring first for a large amount
Small amounts are walk-in. For a larger sum, or a currency we see less often, one call to (02) 8014 4222 means we can tell you what we are able to take that day, rather than you carrying it into the city for nothing.
The notes need to be in resaleable condition
This is the one thing worth checking before you come in, because it is the reason a note gets handed back.
Good condition, because they get sold again
A note you sell us does not stop here. It is checked, sorted, and either sold to the next traveller heading that way or sent back to the country it came from. Both of those buyers can refuse a note, so notes that are badly torn, taped, heavily marked or water-damaged may be declined at our counter.
Older series can be a problem
Countries retire note series, and banks abroad often stop accepting the old design while it is still technically legal tender. If your notes have been in a drawer for years it is worth a call first - age is the failure we can least often work around.
Bring them loose and sorted if you can
Sorted by currency and facing the same way is genuinely quicker at the counter, and it makes the count easier for both of us to follow on the screen. Nothing is refused for being untidy - it just takes longer.

If yours is not answered here, call us on (02) 8014 4222 during trading hours.
Yes. We buy foreign banknotes over the counter at Suite 202A, Level 2, 60 York Street, NSW 2000, and pay you in Australian dollars on the spot. There is no appointment and no commission - the rate confirmed at the counter is the whole deal.
Good, resaleable condition. Notes that are badly torn, taped, heavily marked or water-damaged may be declined, because every note we take is either sold to the next traveller or sent back to the country it came from, and both of those buyers can refuse it.
Bring valid photo identification. Currency exchange is a regulated service in Australia and identification is required for certain transactions under AML/CTF obligations.
Because they are two different jobs. Notes we sell you were bought, insured and held in advance. Notes we buy from you arrive unplanned, and have to be checked, sorted and either resold here or sent back to the country they came from. The gap between those two numbers is how the business earns anything - there is no separate commission or fee on top.
No. There is no commission, service fee or handling charge. The rate you agree at the counter is the number of Australian dollars you leave with.
Call us on (02) 8014 4222 before you travel. Larger sums and less common currencies depend on what we can take that day, and a phone call means you find that out before you carry cash into the city rather than at the counter.
Generally the ones we sell. The live rate board lists every currency we currently hold, with today's rate in both directions, so it is the quickest way to check before you come in.
