Read about the currency you are buying
Before you come in, it is worth knowing what the notes look like, which denominations are useful where you are going, and what the local rules are on arrival.
What we keep behind the counter
For the common currencies the answer to "have you got it?" is usually yes. For anything else, it is worth a phone call first.
The major currencies are on the shelf
US dollars, euros, pounds, yen and the currencies people travel with most are generally in the drawer during trading hours. The board above lists every one of the 22 we hold, with today's rate.
Every note is stock we already bought
A bank transfer is a message between two computers. Cash is not. Every note was bought, paid for, insured, counted and locked in a safe before you asked for it, and it sits there earning nothing until you do.
Ring first for a large amount or an unusual currency
Less common currencies, and larger amounts of anything, depend on what came in that week. One call to (02) 8014 4222 is the difference between walking up two floors and getting what you came for, and walking up two floors for nothing.
Ask for the note sizes you actually want
The rate is only half the trip. What the notes are worth to you when you land depends on what you are handed.
Big notes are not always the useful ones
A single large note is awkward at a taxi, a market stall or a small cafe, and in some countries it will simply be refused. A mix is usually more use on the ground than the same amount in the largest denomination we have.
Tell us before we count it out
Say what you are after when you order or when you get to the counter, and we will make it up that way where the stock allows. Once the notes are counted and the transaction is done it is a new transaction to change them.
Ordering ahead gets you the closest match
Pre-ordering is not only for large sums. It is also how you get a particular mix of note sizes rather than whatever is in the drawer on the day - call (02) 8014 4222 and we will put it aside.
What to bring, and when we are open
Everything a counter visit needs, in one place.

Not for the common currencies - walk in any weekday between 9:30am and 5pm. Call ahead on (02) 8014 4222 for a large amount, a currency we see less often, or a particular mix of note sizes, and we will have it ready rather than sending you away.
We currently hold 22 currencies. The live board on this page lists every one of them with today's rate, and it is the same board our counter works from, so it is the quickest way to check before you travel into the city.
No commission. The rate confirmed at the point of sale is the whole deal. Card payments have their own conditions, which are set out in our in-store terms.
Yes, and it is worth doing. Tell us when you order or when you get to the counter and we will make it up that way where the stock allows. A single large note can be awkward or refused outright at a market stall or a taxi in some countries.
Bring valid photo identification. Currency exchange is a regulated service in Australia and identification is required for certain transactions under AML/CTF obligations.
Yes. We buy foreign banknotes back over the same counter, in good resaleable condition - see what we pay on our sell page. The rate we buy at differs from the rate we sell at, so a round trip does cost you the spread.
